How Kain Big Canoe, CPA helped a community access clean drinking water
As a high school student, he had access to an Indigenous Transition Co-ordinator who worked with all the students and supported their career planning. This allowed him to focus on his education without having to worry too much about his financial situation.
“It was truly an amazing place to grow up and understand that you were supported not just by your family unit, but you had an entire community behind you.”
As soon as he become a professional, his passion became giving back to his Indigenous communities. For Kain, supporting the community not only makes good business sense, but he also sees it as the right thing to do.
“It’s empowering when Indigenous communities can live out their sovereignty and fix problems in their communities that they shouldn’t have had to fix from the beginning.”
One such memorable experience was when Kain was able to help a community fix their water treatment plant. He oversaw the project from a financial management stage and saw it through all the way to fruition.
“It’s not just about making money and having a strong bottom line, but people in this community now have clean drinking water.”
Kain Big Canoe proves that anything is possible when you combine CPA skillsets, strong values, and a drive to make a meaningful difference.
