Shelley Spence

After a varied 35-year career, including tenures at two Big Four firms and owning her own consulting business for two decades, Shelley was appointed as the 14th Auditor General of Ontario in January 2024 for a 10-year term, after being unanimously recommended by a bipartisan panel of MPPs announced in December 2023. In this critically important role, she oversees the financial accountability of the provincial government, ensuring transparency and fiscal responsibility to Ontarians.

In her previous role she was a Partner with Deloitte LLP, where she helped oversee the Canadian Government and Public Service Assurance practice and advised hundreds of public and private sector clients. Shelley has extensive experience with federal, provincial, and municipal governments, agencies, government business enterprises and the broader public sector.

Shelley is currently a member of the Canadian Council of Legislative Auditors, the Canadian Audit and Accountability Foundation, and the Institute of Public Administration of Canada.

Outside of the office, Shelley has been a past volunteer to various initiatives, including the Lake Joseph North Association and Friends of Ruby, an organization supporting the welfare of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
