CFE Re-marks, Performance Analysis Reports and Consultations

There are a few options available if you were unsuccessful on the Common Final Examination (CFE). Below outlines deadlines, procedures and key considerations to help you make informed decisions regarding your next steps.

If you are unsuccessful on any part of the Common Final Examination (CFE), you may request a re-mark and/or a Performance Analysis Report (PAR). For instructions on how to submit your request and payment, please refer to the “Make a Request” section on this page.

Before requesting a re-mark or PAR, we recommend that you:

  1. Review the detailed breakdown of your CFE results and read the Interpreting Your CFE Results Letter.
  2. Watch the relevant video to help you understand your unsuccessful CFE attempt and next steps.
  3. After you watch the relevant video, consider booking a CFE consultation with an Education Advisor for guidance on interpreting your results. If you choose to book a consultation, do not purchase a re-mark or PAR until after your consultation.

Note: If you are unsuccessful on the CFE, you are not required to retake Capstone 2, however, it is recommended to help you refresh your case writing skills and technical knowledge. Attendance at the module workshop or meeting the passing profile are not required. Unsuccessful writers will be notified of Capstone 2 and CFE enrolment.

If you were unsuccessful on only part of the CFE, you may register to rewrite that portion of the exam on a future CFE offering. For example:

  • If you were unsuccessful on Day 1 but passed Day 2 and 3, you are only required to rewrite Day 1. It’s recommended that you review the Day 1 cases offered in upcoming CFEs to plan your next attempt.
  • If you were unsuccessful on Day 2 and 3, but passed Day 1, you are only required to register to rewrite Day 2 and 3.

Refer to our Journey Map to understand your options for an upcoming CFE.

If you were unsuccessful on your third CFE attempt, please review the details on the deregistration process.

Deregistration

A student will be deregistered 45 days after the release of the results of their third unsuccessful attempt at either Core 1, Core 2, Capstone 1, Capstone 2 or the CFE. For an elective module, after three unsuccessful attempts, no further attempts for that module or examination can be made. Students who are unable to successfully complete two of the electives will be deregistered.

Refer to Regulation 9-1, section 1.120 for the definition of an unsuccessful attempt and section 58A for the details and timing of deregistrations.

If this was your third unsuccessful attempt, please watch this video to understand your next steps.

A student who has been deregistered shall not be reregistered except in extraordinary circumstances at the discretion of, and on the restrictions and conditions deemed appropriate by, the Registrar or the Admission and Registration Committee, or the Appeal Committee, as the case may be. Refer to Regulation 9-1 section 58A.
